JML Beach Cleanup & Sustainable Legacies Workshop

  • Category:

In conjunction with Plastic Free July month, JML together with Engage Life organized a “Beach Cleanup” and Sustainable Legacies Workshop at Bagan Lalang Beach in Sepang, Selangor. This one day activity starts in the morning where we gather at the beach for a short briefing by the trainer. We spent the morning at the beach collecting the trash which was mostly plastics, cigarettes butt, straws and fish nets. We then had our lunch at Avani Sepang Goldcoast Resort and continue doing fun workshop and discussion on sustainability for the rest of the afternoon. Beach cleanups and data collection play a crucial role in enabling the public to learn more about the types of waste that end up on the nation's beaches. We collected total of 78kgs of waste from an hour cleaning up. This data then submitted to Ocean Conservancy. The organization also uses this information to track trends that indicate the effectiveness of policies intended to keep plastics off the beaches.
